TOKYO, Japan: Toho Studios has announced the title of the next film in its long-running Godzilla franchise: Godzilla Minus Zero (also styled Godzilla -0.0). Director and visual effects supervisor Takashi Yamazaki, who helmed the 2023 film Godzilla Minus One, will return to lead the new project, according to the company.
The title was revealed during Toho’s annual “Godzilla Day 2025” event in Tokyo, where the studio also presented teaser artwork and a logo designed with black-and-white brush strokes. Yamazaki co-created the emblem, continuing the visual style of the previous installment.
Godzilla Minus One achieved significant commercial and critical success, earning more than $113 million worldwide on a reported $15 million budget. The film became the first in the Godzilla franchise to win an Academy Award, receiving the Oscar for Best Visual Effects, and was the highest-grossing live-action Japanese film in North America.
According to information shared during the event, production on Godzilla Minus Zero will begin later this year in New Zealand and Norway. A late-2026 global release is planned. Story and casting details have not yet been announced.
The new film will mark the 31st Japanese-produced entry in the Godzilla series.
