Lucknow — Air India SATS Airport Services Private Limited (AISATS) announced the induction of electric airport passenger coaches from Tata Motors as part of its efforts to expand low-emission operations across Indian airports.
The first two electric coaches were handed over at Tata Motors’ facility in Lucknow and are set to be deployed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The handover took place in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Tata Group Chairman N. Chandrasekharan.
AISATS has placed an order for 21 electric passenger coaches, which will be introduced in phases across airports in Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Thiruvananthapuram. Eight additional vehicles are scheduled for delivery in late April, with the remaining units to follow over the coming months. The company currently operates 37 electric coaches across its network.
According to AISATS, the move is part of its broader sustainability roadmap and aligns with efforts to reduce emissions in airport ground operations. The new vehicles are expected to support passenger transport with lower noise levels and zero tailpipe emissions.
AISATS CEO Ramanathan Rajamani said the deployment of electric coaches is intended to support cleaner and more efficient passenger movement across airports.
The collaboration brings together AISATS’ ground handling operations and Tata Motors’ electric commercial vehicle capabilities. AISATS provides services at multiple airports across India, while Tata Motors has deployed over 3,000 electric buses nationwide.
